Emergency Dentist in Wellington

What to do in a dental emergency?

Unfortunately, dental emergencies can occur at any time and on any day of the week, and we understand that acute issues often need to be treated as quickly as possible. Our team at Thorndon Dental prioritise patients with pain and will attempt to see you within 24 hours. Some dental emergencies can be avoided by visiting your dentist regularly.

When should I see an emergency dentist?

If you have chipped or broken a tooth as a result of an accident or injury, rinse out your mouth with warm water and try to keep the tooth if possible. Put an ice-pack on the tooth while on your way to the dentist.

  • If the tooth is completely out: Rinse your mouth with saline (salt water) and apply ice to the area. Place the tooth in a small container or plastic wrap. To stop the root from drying out add some saline or milk to the tooth.
  • If the tooth is loose but didn’t get knocked out: take some painkillers or anti-inflammatories, put some ice on the tooth, and get to the dentist as soon as possible.

The sooner you are seen by a dental professional the better the chances teeth can be re-implanted. You’ll be back to your normal smile in no time.
